Lorrie Loveman BA in Language Studies, 2001 I'm currently a graduate student in the M.A. program in Sociology at Humboldt State University, and a direct care provider. [How has your education in Language Studies helped you in your current career?] I have a wonderful base in being able to look at other cultures, specifically, the ones that I studied at UCSC through the language and context requirements of the Language Studies major. I also have been using languages in travel. I was able to use Spanish in Mexico, and while living in Panama I was able to communicate with the village through Spanish and English, but was also able to study the native language, Guari Guari. This has led to my pursuit of further study on that island of issues relating to disaster relief and development, through the MA program at Humboldt State.
