Undergraduate Program

The Linguistics Department sponsors two undergraduate majors, Linguistics and Language Studies. They are both relatively small, very focused, and very intense. The two majors are distinct in various ways, but share a common goal, namely, to provide for students a firm foundation in the study of language. The Linguistics major focuses on linguistic theory and the structure of language in general, while the Language Studies major focuses on the structure of particular languages and on their political, cultural, and historical contexts.
