In the first part of December, JUNKO ITO will go to Japan to present an interim
progress report in connection with a Monbusho science grant at Kobe
University. In addition, she will be involved in preparing Kiyosi Ito's
Aarhus Lecture Notes on Stochastic Processes for publication (Springer
Verlag), which had been circulating in the mathematical underground in a
mimeographed form since the 1970's.

Congratulations to ANNE STURGEON who on Wednesday December 4th
successfully passed her Qualifying Exam and advanced to candidacy. The
paper that Anne presented for the exam was `Configuring Reflexivity,'
a discussion of anaphoric patterns in Czech. The committee consisted
of Judith Aissen, Donka Farkas, Jim McCloskey, and Mike Urban from the
Politics Department.

'Model theory and the content of OT constraints'.
