UCSC was a strong presence at this year's meeting of the North Eastern Linguistic Society (NELS), held November 7-9 at Stony Brook University. Lynsey Wolter presented a talk entitled "Demonstratives, Definiteness and Determined Reference" and Shigeto Kawahara (a former exchange student at UCSC) presented a talk entitled "Echo Epenthesis and Reduplication." The poster sessions featured James Isaacs and Chris Potts' joint work on hidden imperatives, as well as presentations by Jason Riggle (UCSC M.A. 1999) on nonlocal reduplication and by Lotus Goldberg (UCSC M.A. 1998) on VP ellipsis.
