On October 14, from 2-4 pm, Armin Mester and Connie Creel
will be holding a Drop-in Declaration session for those who wish to declare
a major in either Linguistics or Language Studies. The session will be
held in Stevenson 249. Students wishing to declare the major should bring
1) a Declaration of major form, signed by their college, and 2) on a separate
piece of paper, a draft outlining, in a quarter-by-quarter schedule, the
classes you intend to take. These 15-minute session are intended to assist
students with completing the necessary paperwork; more detailed questions
can be discussed in a separate meeting with an undergraduate advisor.

A reminder that the first Linguistics Colloquium of the year will be held
this Friday, October 10, at 4 pm in the Silverman Room at Stevenson College.
The speaker will be John Kingston, Department of Linguistics, University
of Massachusetts at Amherst. The title of his talk is "Lenition:
When (some) sonority differences don't matter."
