Big Congratulations to Sara Finley, who has won a Dean's Award for
undergraduate research for her senior thesis. Sara is a double major
in Linguistics and Psychology and her thesis is on denominal verbs in
English, exploring the properties of such verbs from the perspectives
of theoretical linguistics and of psychology. Sara will go on to the
doctoral program in cognitive science at Johns Hopkins University in
the coming year.

Congratulations to Dylan Herrick who has been offered *two* jobs in Japan, one at Mie University and the other at Chiba University.

Geoff Pullum was one of the four invited speakers at the annual
conference of the Society for Exact Philosophy at Simon Fraser
University in Vancouver, Canada (the others being William Calvin
from neuroscience, Arvind Gupta from computer science, and Diana
Raffman from Philosophy). The lecture that Geoff gave was entitled
"A new look at what natural languages really are."
