Congratulations to Gunnar Hrafn Hrafnbjargarson of Åarhus University,
Denmark on the publication of his Ph.D. dissertation, "Oblique Subjects
and Stylistic Fronting in the History of Scandinavian and English, The
Role of IP-Spec. " Gunnar was a LRC visitor in Fall, 2003. He has
graciously donated a copy of his dissertation to the LRC Library, and
it can be found in recent acquisitions. In his Acknowledgements section,
he writes:
During my stay in Santa Cruz (September - October 2003), I had the opportunity
to discuss large parts of my thesis with many people. First and foremost,
my deepest gratitude goes to Judith Aissen for the marathon meetings we
had. Her strict (albeit very appreciated) criticism came at a crucial
time in the writing of my thesis. Line Mikkelsen also deserves special
thanks for the discussions we had in Santa Cruz and Århus, and for
the unforgettable hike in Pfeiffer Big Sur and at Point Lobos. She and
Patrick made me feel welcome in Santa Cruz and I am so grateful to them...
for the tours to Trader Joe's for getting Icelandic water and German chocolate,
and not least for a great birthday party on the beach. I would also like
to thank Donka Farkas and Jim McCloskey for valuable discussions. Thanks
to my fellow Cave dwellers for the nights out on town and for allowing
me to "take over" one of the computers.
