SemLab

Led by Pranav Anand and Donka Farkas, SemLab is an informal gathering whose goals are to further the development of experimental methodologies in semantics at UCSC. The agenda for Spring 2008 is to get up and running on small experiments of interest, with the initial goal of becoming familiar with the new tools now at the disposal of the semanticist and the eventual goal of more sophisticated experiments. The group meets weekly in lab fashion, which essentially means that people present whatever they want to present (papers they're reading, problems they're running into and so on). Anyone even vaguely interested in having a conversation about why and how we should be using different methodologies in semantics is encouraged to attend; research will come out of this discussion.

Currently, the lab is working on a project concerning the semantics of number, led by Farkas, and a project on semantic coercion, led by Anand.
