Ling 116: Semantics Two
This course is the second in a sequence of three courses designed to introduce you to the study of formal semantics. In Semantics 1, you are exposed to several areas of exploration in semantics, such as: subtle distinctions, lexical meaning, thematic relations, quantification, and formal tools of propositional logic. In Semantics II, we delve a little deeper into the Semantics I areas, as well as introducing new areas of inquiry: modality, interrogative meaning, and the compositionality hypothesis.
Prerequisites: Ling 53 (Semantics One) and
either Ling 52 (Syntax One) or Ling 55 (Syntactic Structures).
