| About the Department The department offers undergraduate programs in linguistics and language studies as well as graduate (MA and PhD) programs in theoretical linguistics. Our faculty has research specializations in phonology, syntax, and semantics and interests in a variety of languages. The department trains students for careers in teaching, research, and industry. Its graduate program in theoretical linguistics was ranked among the top 10 in the U.S. by the National Research Council in 1995.
